Bermuda - Apply to Become a Marriage Officer


Procedure

Apply by Fax, or Email:

  1. Prepare the required documents for your application and if you are a non-Bermudian, you must obtain a copy of the Immigration Department’s approval for you to perform a marriage in Bermuda.
  2. Pay the necessary application fee and attach the proof of payment to your application.
  3. Send the complete application to the registry general via email: kminors@gov.bm or Fax: (441) 292-4568
  4. Once received, the registry will verify your application, it it meets the requirements placed by law and make their approval decision.
  5. Once the application is approved, the Registry General will contact you pertaining to the collection of the licence and useful materials if need be.

NOTE: For a non-Bermudian, a separate letter must be forwarded to the Bermuda Department of Immigration requesting permission to come to Bermuda to perform a marriage ceremony if you are not a resident of Bermuda.

  • A copy of your Certificate of Ordination or written confirmation of your qualifications from the senior administrative authority of your religion
  • Prove of payment
  • For a non-Bermudian, a copy of the Immigration Department’s approval for you to perform a marriage in Bermuda.

Eligibility

  • Ordained minister of a religion i.e. ministers of the Christian, Jewish, Baha’i or Muslim faiths may apply for a Marriage Officer licence.

  • The application is subject to approval hence you should apply in due time to avoid inconvenience
  • You must obtain a copy of the Immigration Department’s approval if you are non-Bermudian.
