1. Applicants must go to the Ministry of Brussels Capital-Region to apply for a work permit.
2. The Region is the only authority who will decide whether to approved your request. As soon as your application is approved and the cards are ready, they are sent to the service Work permit in the Brussels administrative centre. The centre will then summon the applicant to come and get the work permit.

There are several type of Work Permits:

• Type-C work permit: foreign natives who are staying in Belgium temporarily or who are still awaiting a decision on their right to stay.
• Type-B work permits: granted for a specific job for a specific employer for a set period of up to twelve months.
• European blue card: granted for certain highly educated workers in connection with the obtaining of a temporary employment permit.
• Type-A work permit: This covers all (paid) work of any duration for any employer. It is only granted to foreign nationals employed for at least four years on the basis of a type-B work permit during an uninterrupted period of no more than ten years' stay in Belgium. In some cases the required period of work is reduced

A person registered in the City of Brussels and who needs a work permit can submit a request to the Ministry of Brussels Capital-Region. Otherwise, it is the employer who has to do this.
