Bangladesh - Apply for Wage Earner Development Bond Purchase


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Wage Earner Development Bond Purchase, the applicant has to approach the Central Bank OF Bangladesh link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. Or the applicant has to download the application form from the following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to attach the necessary documents that are mentioned in “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed application to the concerned officer.
  7. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  8. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. This entire process can be completed within 10-15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • Any statement from the employer or a business document if the applicant are involved in business

Eligibility

  • A Bangladeshi wage-earner serving abroad and entitled to wage-earners‟ rate of exchange on his own earnings in foreign exchange-
    • In his own name or
    • In the name of any other person named in his application And
  • A beneficiary of a wage-earners‟ remittance in foreign exchange in his own name or in the name of wage-earner if he produces sufficient proof to the effect that the remittance has been made by the wage-earner out of his own earnings in foreign exchange or in Taka currency received against foreign exchange remittance and the remittance is adequate to cover the value of the Bond.
  • Where a wage-earner is an employee of the Government or a statutory, autonomous or semiautonomous body working abroad on lien he shall be eligible to purchase a bond if he has fulfilled the requirements as prescribed by the Government from time to time in respect of compulsory remittance of a portion of his gross salary to Bangladesh through normal official channel at the official rate of 3 exchanges. Employees of Bangladesh Missions abroad employed by the Government and paid in Foreign Currency, being not Wage earners, shall also be eligible to purchase a bond.

  • Wage Earner Development Bond (WEDB) is a product designed by Bangladesh Central bank for Bangladeshi national living abroad. The objective of this product is to encourage the NRBs to invest their hard-earned money to purchase WEDB on which the government guarantees a fixed interest rate.
