Apply In Person

1. To Apply for Transfer of Residence, the applicant has to approach the Bangladesh Customs Authority link National Board of Revenue (NBR) Bangladesh link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. or it can be downloaded from the following link
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
10. Once the application is received, the customs authority will inspect the goods to verify that they match the inventory provided.
11. The applicant will get the reference licensing from the office.
12. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

To be eligible,

• The applicant must be a Bangladeshi citizen returning to Bangladesh after residing abroad for at least two years.
• The applicant must have stayed in the foreign country for at least 730 days in the last two years before he/she arrived in Bangladesh.
• The applicant is also required to have a valid work permit or visa in a foreign country.

• The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.

• The validity of the license is 2 years.

• Transfer of Residence in Bangladesh is a customs scheme that allows Bangladeshi citizens returning to Bangladesh after residing abroad for at least two years to bring their personal belongings with them without having to pay any duty or tax.
• This scheme is intended to assist Bangladeshi citizens who are returning to their home country after a long period and wish to bring their personal belongings with them.

• Under the Transfer of Residence scheme, the personal belongings that are eligible for duty-free import include used household items, such as furniture, clothing, and other personal effects. The goods must be for personal use only and not intended for sale or commercial purposes.

e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
