Bahamas - Applying for Transfer of Vehicle Ownership

Apply In-Person:

  1. To transfer Vehicle Ownership, interested person must present the motor vehicle to your nearest Road Traffic Department in New Providence or the Family islands. Contact Link The Administrator’s office will act on behalf of RTD in Bimini/Cat Cay, Harbor Island and Spanish Wells.
  2. Provide the Inspector at the location with all of your supporting documents.
  3. The Inspector will verify documents and perform the inspection on the vehicle. If vehicle fails the inspection the failure reason will be captured for RTD records.
  4. If the vehicle passes the inspection the owner will be given an Inspection Certificate of Fitness form to present to the RTD Customer Service Representative.
  5. The Customer Service Representative will capture the owners’ identity and the vehicle supporting documents. Once these documents are uploaded the owner will be registered in the Transport Management System. At this time the owner will be assigned a Transport Management Number (TMN).
  6. Your vehicle will be registered under your TMN.
  7. Upon payment of the required fees by the owner, the Cashier will issue the Vehicle License Disc, a Title Certificate and new motor vehicle licence plates.
  8. Upon payment of the required fees by the owner, the Cashier will issue a renewed Vehicle License Disc.





Required Documents

  • Title Certificate signed and dated the owner and buyer
  • Valid Insurance Certificate or Cover Note
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Valid Identity Document (Passport, Voter’s Card or Birth Certificate)
  • Central Detective Unit (CDU) vehicle chassis check document

Eligibility

All motor vehicles and motorcycles registered in the Transport Management System is eligible for a transfer of ownership.



Fees

The transfer fee is $10.
