- To apply for Self-Drive Franchise, the applicant has to fill the application form and submit to the Franchise Unit of the Road Traffic Department.
- For Applications at the Family Islands, the applications can be submitted at the particular Family Island Road Traffic Department located on the main family islands otherwise the application can be made at the Family Island Commissioner’s Office.

- The Applicant can download the application form from the following Link.
- Complete the application form with all details.
- The Inspector will inspect the vehicle and verify all relevant information.
- After inspection of the condition of the tires, condition of bus seats, bus reflectors, tints etc., the inspector will issue Inspection Information Form (only for new vehicles) and an Inspection Pass Certificate.
- The applicant must take the supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Document” section of the procedure, along with the Inspection Pass Certificate to the Road Traffic Department Franchise Unit for registration of the vehicle.
- The Registration Clerk will verify that the relevant vehicle and franchise information provided meets the requirements of the department. If satisfactory, the Clerk will register the Public Service vehicle.
- The fees will be calculated by the Registration Clerk and will issue Vehicle Information Disc for payment.
- The applicant must take Vehicle Information Disc and Pass Inspection Certificate to the Cashier for validation. The Applicant will be informed by the Cashier about the fees required to have the Vehicle Information Disc and Inspection Certificate validated.

Fees
Vehicle Registration Fees:
- Group A – BS$160 – vehicle less than 5,000lbs
- Group B – BS$560 – vehicle between 5,000lbs and 15,000lbs
- Group C – BS$760 – vehicles over 15,000lbs
- Inspection fee: BS$35Public Service Fee: BS$20.00
Additional franchise fees may be applied.
Validity
- All Public Service Vehicles are licensed in the month of May.
- Inspection is done twice a year for Public Service Vehicles during the month of May and October.

Processing Time
The processing time varies depending on when the interview and practical exam are scheduled. The licence can be issued the same day if the candidate passes the interview and the practical driving exam.
