Procedure

Apply In-Person
- The Applicant must go in person to the local Department of Housing office in New Providence, Grand Bahama, or Abaco with all supporting documentation.
- Visit the following Details: Contact Link.
- If there are enough applicants on a family island, a request can be made to have an officer from the Department of Housing deployed to the island to conduct the interview through the Local Family Island Administrator's Office. If there aren't enough applications, the applicant will have to go to the Department of Housing in New Providence.
- During the interview, a Department of Housing officer will analyse the applicant to decide whether or not they are eligible for the Government Housing Program.
- The Applicant cannot already own a government residence, have a mortgage, or have more than one government guaranteed loan.
- After meeting all of the conditions and qualifying for a government home, the applicant is placed on a waiting list and notified when a home becomes available.
- When a home becomes available, the Ministry of Housing calls the applicant to advise them of the availability and issues a letter of offer that specifies the property's location.
- A letter advising of the assignment will also be issued to an approved lending institution.
- The applicant has the option of choosing whatever lender he or she wants. The loan will not be guaranteed by the government if the lender is not a government-approved lender.
- An appointment is made with a lender who has been authorised to process the application for a mortgage loan.
- Once the loan has been approved and the home has been completed, an inspector will conduct a final inspection with the home owner, noting any faults that need to be addressed.
- Before the keys are handed over, the home owner must sign an Inspection Verification form stating that he or she is satisfied with the property.
