In case the vehicle is lost / stolen and untraceable, one needs to cancel his or her vehicle registration. Also, in case the vehicle got damaged due to accident or fire and the vehicle can’t be used further then one has to get this cancellation certificate to sell it for scrap. When you decide to scrap the vehicle please cut down the chassis and engine number.

1. To Cancel Vehicle Registration Certificate in Assam the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
   
2. Write an application for cancellation in a white A4 size paper to the RTO officer / authority.
   
3. Please mention the engine number, Chassis Number, Car model and vehicle number
   
4. Please attach FIR obtained from Police Station
   
5. Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
   
6. Present the completed application along with documents to the officer at RTO. He will sign and put his stamp on application.
   
7. Based on his advice submit the application and documents in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
   
8. Applicant will be issued with acknowledgement or the copy of application with details of registry, signature and stamp.
