Assam - Apply for Tax Exemption Certificate


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. Application form for tax exemption certificate in Assam is available in Income Tax Department Office - link
  2. Applicant must provide necessary information in the application form.
  3. Applicant must make sure to carry all documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. All documents must be carried as originals and photocopies by the applicant.
  5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request while submitting the application.
  7. If all the above-mentioned procedures were followed properly by an applicant, the tax exemption certificate will be issued to the applicant within 30 days.
  8. If the applicant didn’t get the certificate within 30 days, they can visit the office to know the status of the application.



Apply Online:

  1. To apply for tax exemption certificate the applicant must visit the following link Apply online.
  2. The applicant can download the application form from the above link and submit it to the assessing officer.
  3. The applicant need to fill in the necessary details including applicant’s name, email id, mobile number, Aadhaar card number, estimated total income of previous year, details of income claimed to be exempt etc.
  4. After providing all the necessary details, the applicant must submit the application form to the Assessing officer from the Income Tax Department.
  5. Once the form has been submitted, it has to be processed and approved by the senior Jurisdictional Authority.
  6. The entire process takes about 15 to 20 days for approval.
  7. Once approved, the certificate can be downloaded from applicant’s registered email id.

  • Original copy of respective local chairman/secretary/village council recommendation letter (endorsement).
  • Bank statements for the past 2 years
  • PAN card and AADHAR card Number
  • TAN number.
  • 3 assessment year’s tax payment details.
  • 3 assessment year’s income details.
  • Balance statements and statements of profit and loss for the previous 3 years.
  • Existing liabilities details under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • Payment of advance and tax details.
  • Details of claimed income apart from the total income.

  • Social Welfare Organizations, Schools, Colleges, Labour Organizations, social clubs whose earnings are not related to an individual or any private sectors are eligible.
