Arizona - How to Change address in a Driver license


Procedure

  • You may change your address - online, by contacting MVD or by visiting an MVD Office.
  • Provide the following information: your name, date of birth and driver license or identification card number.
  • You do not need to pay anything to change your address on MVD's records. In case you would like to request a replacement driver license or ID card, you will need to pay the replacement fee of $12.00.
  • When you change your address on MVD's records, it will automatically change the address on your driver license record and on each vehicle record where you are designated to receive the registration.

Eligibility

You must have a valid Arizona Driver license.




Fees

  • Reporting Change of Address/Name: No fee
  • Replacement driver license or ID card: $12.00


Payment may be made by cash, check, travelers check or money order (payable to Motor Vehicle Division) for most fees; credit cards may be used at some offices. Returned check and reinstatement fees may not be paid by check.




Validity

Arizona issues an "extended" driver license that does not expire until age 65. However, your photo and vision screening will need to be updated every 12 years. Drivers age 60 and over will receive a 5-year license.

You need to update the address on your file with MVD to be able to receive renewal notices or other correspondence concerning your driver license or vehicle records. You may be cited by law enforcement if you do not change your address within the 10 days.

  • Tips for Faster Service
    • Begin your application online
    • Best days to visit are usually Wednesday and Thursday.
    • Avoid the first and last two days of the month, and the day after a holiday or other office closure.
    • Bring acceptable proof of identification.
    • Bring your out-of-state driver license.
    • Vehicles new to Arizona may require an inspection.
    • Bring your out-of-state title, registration and plates.
    • Have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy.
  • Resident Definition
    • State law requires that you obtain an Arizona driver license and registration immediately if any one of the following applies. If you:
      • Work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work)
      • Are registered to vote in this state
      • Place children in school without paying the tuition rate of a nonresident
      • Have a business with an office in Arizona, that bases and operates vehicles in this state
      • Obtain a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident
      • Have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona
      • Remain in Arizona for a total of seven months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence
    • Out-of-state students enrolled with seven or more semester hours, are not considered Arizona residents, regardless of employment.
    • Active duty military personnel based in Arizona who qualify for exemption under the Service Members Civil Relief Act of 2003 are not considered Arizona residents.
