1. It is not a requirement but the Passport Office recommends that a family member or executor of a deceased passport bearer return the passport for cancelation. Cancelling a passport will prevent other people from using the passport to commit fraud. To cancel the passport the relative of the deceased will need to submit to the passport office a letter requesting the cancelation and return (or destruction) of the passport.
2. Applicants will also need to present a certified copy of the death certificate.
3. The officer will process your request, and return the cancelled passport after.
