The applicant for the marriage has the right to choose between his presence itself in the service of civil status or sending a written request by mail:
Algerian nationals may obtain a marriage certificate, by providing the family book or a copy of a previous marriage certificate issued by the state registrar or notary or competent cadi.
The state registrar or notary or competent cadi filling/ prepare the marriage certificate of the spouses is either that of their residence or that of one of the two.
A woman, whose previous marriage has been dissolved, shall produce, as appropriate:
A copy of the death certificate of the former husband or a copy of the birth certificate of one that refers to the death, or the family book which include the death certificate.
An extract of the marriage certificate or birth certificate mentioning the dissolution of marriage or family book or figure this statement or even a copy of the judgment of dissolution accompanied by a certificate from the competent magistrate or clerk certifying it became final.
Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.

The application for a marriage registration submitted by an Algerian women married to a non Algerian husband must be accompanied by the Long birth certificate of the husband and a certificate of Muslim Religion (Certificat de Conversion � l'Islam) issued by a mosque or an association agreed by the British or Irish Authorities.
