Alberta - Renew Driver License


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To renew a driver’s license, the applicant will need to visit the nearest Registry Agent’s office, find the nearest office here Link.
  2. Make sure to carry the old driver’s license.
  3. Submit the old license at the registry agent’s office.
  4. Fill in the application form with all the necessary details.
  5. Attach copies of required documents as mentioned under the “Required Document” section of this page.
  6. The applicant will have to pay fees. Payment details are mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. The applicant shall receive their new driver’s license within 3 weeks from the submission of the application.
  8. The applicant can collect the license from the registry agent’s office.


Apply by Mail

  1. To renew a driver’s license, the applicant will need to fill an application form, use the following Link.
  2. Download and complete the application form, fill in all relevant details.
  3. Attach copies of all relevant documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. Send in the completed application form along with the documents to the nearest registry agent’s office.
  5. The applicant will have to pay fees. Find payment-related information under the “Fees” section of this page.
  6. Find the office addresses under the “Office Locations and contacts” section of this page.
  7. The applicant shall receive their renewed driver’s license by mail within three weeks from the submission of the application.

If the applicants are older than 70 years of age, he/she will need to show a medical clearance certificate.
