- To Obtain a Specific Power of Attorney, the applicant must approach nearby Offices of the United States Attorneys link
- Note: The applicant must select their respective district from the drop-down menu to find nearby offices to them.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant must enter all the details in the application form.
- Make sure that the applicant must attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant must attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the necessary documents along with the completed form to the concerned attorney officer.
- The fee for this procedure must be paid as per the attorney’s request.
- The designated attorney will review the documents. The attorney will draft the power of attorney documentation process.
- Once the officer drafts the POA, the applicant must sign and notarize it.
- The processing time to obtain specific Power of Attorney is takes up to 8 – 10 weeks.

Need for the Document
- The specific POA grants the agent the authority to deal with a specific subject or matter on behalf of the principal. For example, the specific POA may state that the agent is only allowed to collect rents from a property.
- In such a case, the agent cannot sell the property or extend the property’s rental duration. An agent who has been granted a specific POA cannot overstep and make decisions relating to general matters of law.
Usually, Power of Attorney is created by anyone who cannot do the transactions in person by himself or herself due to various reasons. The following are the reasons that commonly force an individual to give the power of performing to another person.
- Residing abroad and unable to be present for the task
- Illness and bedridden
