1. Call the county court or probate office where you plan to obtain a license. List of counties can be found here: http://info.alabama.gov/directory_county.aspx.
2. Obtain required documents needed for marriage license application.
3. Visit the county court or probate office to apply for a marriage license. The couple must be present during application.
4. Approach the clerk and ask for marriage license application. Present your identification.
5. Complete the application form.
6. Pay the fees.
7. Receive your marriage license.
8. Get married in the state of Alabama within 30 days of when the license was issued.
9. Return the license, signed by an officiant, to the court office and receive a certified marriage certificate.

The legal age to marry without parental consent is 18 years.

Individuals who are at least 16 years of age but less than 18 years of age may need to meet certain requirements.

For those aged 16 and 17, you may obtain a license if parents of both parties are present, has given their consent in writing and can present a valid identification.

For those who have been divorced, you may not apply for a license within 60 days after your divorce was granted unless you are remarrying your former spouse.

Notes:

• A premarital blood test is no longer required in order to obtain a Marriage License in Alabama.
• No person under the age of sixteen (16) can obtain a marriage license in the State of Alabama.

• Marriage License: Ranges from $40-$80.

Cash or credit card requirement varies depending on a county. Some locals charge $2 for using a credit card. License fees also vary. $43.35+ for marriage license only; $63+ for license, ceremony and a certified copy.

All Marriage licenses issued can only be issued in the State of Alabama. It expires in thirty (30) days from the date it was issued.
