Driver RecordEdit

For individuals who want a copy of their own three (3) year Driver License Record.

Sending request by mail

  1. Complete the request form.
  2. Send the completed form along with your payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
    Driving Record Request
    Driver License Division
    PO Box 1471
    Montogomery AL 36102-1471

Sending request in person

  1. Check the list below for locations where you can personally obtain a driver record.
  2. You may use this form when you submit your request.
  3. Pay the fee ($5.75).
  4. It will take about a week or 10 days for your request to be processed.

Driver AbstractEdit

  1. Requests for a Driver Abstract must be submitted in person.
  2. Complete the form and be ready to present your government issued photo ID.
  3. Pay the fee ($15.00).
  4. The abstract prints overnight and will be mailed to the address stated on the request.
  5. You may obtain a driver abstract in the following locations:

Fees

  • Copy of Driver Record (MVR): $5.75
  • Copy of Crash Report: $15.00

For requests submitted by post, payments must be in the form of a cashier's check, certified check, or money order made payable to the Alabama Department of Public Safety. No personal checks will be accepted.


  • Driver Abstract: $15.00

Acceptable forms of payment: cash, money order, Visa or MasterCard. No personal checks are accepted.

Need for the Document

A driving record/MVR contains information about your driving history including which includes traffic accidents, driving record points, traffic law violations, convictions and fines. This document also states whether your driver license is valid, suspended or cancelled.

Driving records are often used for background checks or in court proceedings. It is also used by insurance agencies to adjust their clients' policy rates/premiums and investigate claims.
