Alabama - How to Become a Certified Translator


Procedure

To become certified translator in US, the applicant has to be an ATA certified person. For getting ATA certificate, the applicant must qualify the exam conducted by ATA. The applicant can register for exam through ATA headquarters website.

Apply Online

  1. To register for ATA exam in Alabama, the applicant must be an ATA member. To join ATA, the applicant has to apply through online by completing the ATA application form. By login to link and the applicant can enter ATA website.
  2. The applicant has to click “Join ATA today” menu.
  3. Select the type of membership from the given options.
  4. After selecting the type of membership, the applicant has to enter their Name and Email and click “Apply” menu.
  5. The applicant needs to fill in all the necessary information in the application form (Incomplete application forms are not accepted)
  6. Once the applicant’s documentation has been reviewed, they receive an approval code from ATA that will give the applicant access to the online new membership application.
  7. After taking ATA membership, the applicant can register for ACTFL proficiency test conducted by ATA through ATA headquarters Website. Login to link check the exam status.
  8. ATA exams are scheduled by local group based on the registration order get in headquarters.
  9. The applicant has to pay $ 525 for register ATA exam.


Note: The applicant is requested to join ATA before 4 weeks of the exam date.

Note: The ATA centres were not in all the states of USA. The applicant has to contact one of the centres nearby them.




Eligibility

  • ATA membership is the basic eligibility criteria to apply for ATA certificate.
  • Applicant has to qualify the language proficiency test of American council on the Teaching of Foreign (ACTFL) for the language that he/she need the certification.
  • The applicant should have bachelor’s degree in translation and interpretation from an institution approved by the ATA education and Pedagogy committee, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years of proven work experience as a translator or 5 years of proven work experience as a translator.




Fees

  • For register ATA exam, the applicant has to pay $525 to the headquarters of the association.




Validity

  • Validity of the translator certificate is forever.

  • Applicants must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.

Need for the Document

  • A certified translation comprises the translated document together with a signed statement created by the translator or the translation company signifying that the translation is a complete and accurate rendering of the original or source text.
  • The ATA certificate is an objective assurance and proof of a translator’s professional competence in certain language combination.

  • Single screen
  • Front-facing web cam
  • Microphone
  • Internet connection with a minimum 3 Mbps upload speed
  • Current version of Google chrome or Firefox browser.
  • Power cord
