Alabama - Get a Duplicate Marriage Certificate

Apply by mail

  1. To Get a Duplicate Marriage Certificate, the applicant has to approach the Alabama Public Health link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer or the applicant has to download the application form from the following link
  3. The applicant has to enter all the details in the application form.
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the necessary documents along with the completed form to the Public Health Mailing address.
  7. The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
  8. The for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. Then the application will be processed further and if required, the applicant has to visit the nearest health center to give further details in-person.
  11. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets the marriage certificate through mail.
  12. The processing time for obtaining a birth certificate takes up to 15 – 25 days.

What will happen if not get married:

  • The absence of registration of marriage does not render the marriage illegal. A marriage without registration is perfectly legal. Since the applicant is married for all legal and practical purposes the applicant can dissolve the marriage only through a decree of divorce passed by the competent court.
