Afghanistan - Apply for National Identity Card (Taskera)


Procedure

  1. Go to the Population and Statistics Office either at the Kabul or Provincial level.
  2. Complete a form that is required and you should have witnesses need to testify to your origin in a particular place.
  3. After your identity has been verified, the matter is referred to the provincial police. The provincial police headquarters have a small passport office.
  4. Submit a photo and file an official application for taskera with the petition letter.
  5. After filling the application, the provincial chief of police or his deputy will sign your application.
  6. Upon approval, the documents will be sent to the administrative capital of the region, where the Taskera will be printed.
  7. The document will then be sent to the police station, where you or your close relative can collect it.

Eligibility

A Taskera can be obtained as soon as the birth of a child is registered at the population office. A birth that took place in a hospital is automatically registered. However, a birth that took place at home should be registered.

Need for the Document

A National Identity Card or Taskera is the most commonly used identity document in Afghanistan. It is the most universal and accurate document in Afghanistan. The identity cards are required for transacting any business with the government, including the purchase or sale of immovable property, the preparation of official documents (including the passports), admission into school and so on.
