Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To apply for the International Driver License, you should make your application to the  International Driving Permit section of the Traffic Branch under the Mauritius Police Force. 2. Visit the Traffic Branch office during their operating hours and make your way to the International Driver License service section and obtain the application form for the IDL at the counter.
3. Complete the application form as required and then prepare all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below.
4. Then attach all the required supporting documents to the application form and visit the traffic branch office.
5. Pay the prescribed application fee of Rs. (MUR) 800 at the cashier’s office and obtain the payment receipt.
6. Upon paying the application fee, submit your application file along with the payment receipt to the official at the International Driving Permit section.
7. The official will check if you have complete the form correctly and if you provided all the required documents, and then you will be issued with the acknowledgment receipt of the application.
8. The application will then be forward for processing at the back office and you will be required to visit the office on the following day of your application to obtain the IDL.

Apply online

1. To apply for the International Driver License online, the applicant should make the application to the International Drivers Association through this link International Drivers Association.
2. On the website scroll down and click on the “Start my application” button to be directed to the next page.
3. The applicant should then choose the ideal package for them according to the validity of the International Drivers License and click on the “Start application” button on the package chosen.
4. On the driver’s details page, enter all the required details and agree to receive emails about your order then click on the “Continue” button to go to the shipping page.
5. On the shipping page, select the address the International Drivers License will be shipped to and choose the shipping method then click on the “Complete form to continue” button to go to the payment page.
6. Choose the preferred method for payment and then complete all the required details and then click on the “Pay now” button and proceed to the verification page.
7. On the verification page, enter all the required details and upload the required documents and then submit to proceed to the confirmation page.
8. On the confirmation page, confirm if the application is completed as required and then submit it to the International Drivers Association.
9. Upon a successful application of the International Driver License, the applicant will receive an acknowledgment receipt through his/her email address with the necessary details of the application.
10. Then the International Drivers Association will process the application and make the applicant’s International Driver License.
11. Once the license is processed, it will be shipped to the applicant through the applicant’s registered address.

Eligibility

• Mauritius citizens who hold a valid Mauritius driver’s license are eligible to apply for the IDL.

Fees

• The application fee for the IDL is Rs. (MUR) 800.
• For the online application, the application fee depends on the validity of the International Driver License.

Validity

• The IDL is valid for one year or it may be valid for the period of a Mauritius driver’s license if the license validity period is less than one year.
• The International Driver License applied online is valid for one, two, and three years.

Instructions

• You should visit the International Driving Permit Counter, Traffic Branch, Line Barracks between 0900 hrs. To 1400 hrs. On weekdays (except public holidays) and between 0900 hrs. To 1030 hrs. on Saturdays.
