Need for the Document[edit]
International Driving Permit or Permiso Internacional de Conducir (PIC) is a document issued by the Automobile Club of Chile allowing its holder to drive a vehicle in another country that has no bilateral agreement with Chile (Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru).
Information which might help[edit]
Remember that you must bring along your driving license issued in Chile during your trip abroad. The international driving permit is only a translation of your local driving license, you must be able to present both at all times.
Other uses of the Document/Certificate[edit]
The IDP authenticates the validity of your local driving license. To the road transport authorities in other countries, the IDP proves your status as a tourist without showing your passport.
You may be required to present your IDP in case you encounter a traffic problem, either infractions or accidents while abroad. Your insurance company may also request for your IDP to cover vehicle damage in case of accidents abroad.
