- The prefecture issues a permit based on investigations and, if relevant, interviews with the security forces. Without the permission from the Wilaya i.e., Prefecture (Bureaux des étrangers) where you reside. the marriage cannot be entered into the population registry.
Apply In Person
- To Apply for Marriage Permission, the applicant has to approach the Bureaux des etrangers link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant will be required to visit the central police office together with your fiancé where you will be given a questioner that pertaining your religion, education, employment and personal details.
- Then the foreigner partner will have photographs and finger prints taken and adscription of the physical appearance.
- The police will conduct their investigation and submit their findings to the prefecture office.
- The Prefecture (Bureaux des étrangers) department will then issue the permission based on the police investigation.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority. (if required)
- This entire process can be completed within 3 – 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

- Confirmation of conversion to Islam, NB with foreign women not necessary
- Permit to get married for citizens of countries where this is a requirement. If applicable, evidence of termination of any previous marriages (decree absolute/death certificate).

- Without the permission and approval by the prefect, the marriage cannot be entered into the population registry, hence you require this document to process your marriage.

- The applicant must demonstrate to Algerian officials that they are not currently married to anyone else - either you have never been married or all divorces are finalized - that your identity is proven, and that you have never committed any crimes in Algeria.
- This is done by providing various documents including an Affidavit of Single Status to the Algerian government either in Algeria or via an Algerian embassy.

- The minimum age for legal marriage in Algeria is 19 for both genders. However, a judge can grant exemption for a reason of interest or in case of necessity
- Because the only language recognized in Algeria is Arabic, documents must all be translated into Arabic to be included in an application
