Apply by Mail

  1. Gather and prepare all the required documents and then Obtain application form for importation of coal for own use Form ECS 3 from Malawi Energy Regulation Authority (MERA) office in your location
  2. Fill the application form accordingly and pay the required application fees
  3. Attach all the required documents to the application including the prove of payment receipt
  4. Send the complete application addressed to the Malawi Energy Regulation Authority through this address: MERA; Private Bag B496, Capital City, Lilongwe 3, Malawi. Alliteratively, you can deliver the application by yourself to the head office (Licensing Section)
  5. The licensing officer will receive the application and MERA will acknowledge receipt in writing to you within 30 days from the date they received it
  6. The MERA will send an inspector to inspect the premises to be used, if it meets the health and safety requirements and file a report of the inspection to the MERA
  7. MERA will review the report and if your application meets the standard requirements, they will communicate the decision to you through your contacts
  8. Then the licence will be processed and you will collect it at the MERA licensing office

InstructionsEdit

  • Whenever there is a change in the particulars, the registered importer of coal for own use shall immediately advise the Authority of the new particulars.
  • Every registered importer of coal for own use shall pay a registration fee and annual renewal registration fee as prescribed by law
  • Renewal of registration for importation of coal for own use shall be due on the 1st day of January each year.
