Apply by Mail
- Gather and prepare all the required documents and then Obtain application form for importation of coal for own use Form ECS 3 from Malawi Energy Regulation Authority (MERA) office in your location
- Fill the application form accordingly and pay the required application fees
- Attach all the required documents to the application including the prove of payment receipt
- Send the complete application addressed to the Malawi Energy Regulation Authority through this address: MERA; Private Bag B496, Capital City, Lilongwe 3, Malawi. Alliteratively, you can deliver the application by yourself to the head office (Licensing Section)
- The licensing officer will receive the application and MERA will acknowledge receipt in writing to you within 30 days from the date they received it
- The MERA will send an inspector to inspect the premises to be used, if it meets the health and safety requirements and file a report of the inspection to the MERA
- MERA will review the report and if your application meets the standard requirements, they will communicate the decision to you through your contacts
- Then the licence will be processed and you will collect it at the MERA licensing office

- Whenever there is a change in the particulars, the registered importer of coal for own use shall immediately advise the Authority of the new particulars.
- Every registered importer of coal for own use shall pay a registration fee and annual renewal registration fee as prescribed by law
- Renewal of registration for importation of coal for own use shall be due on the 1st day of January each year.
