This procedure explains various ways to Apply for Recognition as Filipino in Zamboanga Peninsula.
You are a foreign national. Your father and/or mother were Filipino citizen at the time of your birth. If you wish to be acknowledged as a Filipino citizen, you can apply for Recognition as Filipino by following these steps:
- Prepare the requirements:
- BI Form - Application for Recognition as Filipino Citizen Application
- Letter request addressed to the Commissioner from either of your father/mother or both parents, or from your legal guardian (if you are below 18 years old); Or from you (if you are 18 years old or above) with statements that either father/mother or both parents are Filipino citizens at the time of your birth and all documents submitted are genuine and were legally obtained from the corresponding government agencies;
- Photo of your passport bio-page;
- Photo of your parent’s passport bio-page;
- Your birth certificate;
- Birth certificate of your parent who is Philippine citizen at the time of your birth;
- Affidavit of Citizenship to be executed by your parent stating that he/she is a Philippine citizen at the time of your birth if the application letter was executed by you or your legal guardian; and
- Your BI Clearance Certificate
- Submit your application:
- Visit Bureau of Immigration's Main Office Office Locations, if you did not fully understand about the required documents, you can get help from the Public Information and Assistance Unit (PIAU) at BI G/F Main Office.
- You can submit the required documents for pre-screening to the Central Receiving Unit (CRU). Follow the officer’s guiding to get the Order of Payment Slip (OPS), pay the required fees and submit copy of Official Receipt.
- To complete the process, you must attend a hearing. Please refer to the Official receipt for the schedule and venue of the hearing. If approved, please claim your Identification Certificate. Congratulation, you are a Filipino citizen now.

Note: When you submit your documents, please make sure that it is arranged in the order as listed in the Checklist of Documentary Requirements (CDR) link , compiled in a legal size (8½ x 14 in.) folder and shall be submitted within the prescribed period, if applicable. Otherwise, your application or petition shall not be accepted.
