This procedure explains various ways to Apply for NC2 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Certificate in Zamboanga City.

Here are the procedures on how you can apply for a NC2 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Certificate:

Apply for an assessment by going to any Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Accredited Centers/District or Provincial Office. You can use the link to find the nearest assessment center in your area. - Assessment Center Link
Submit these following documents:
1. Completed Application Form (link to the form provided under 'Documents to Use' section)
2. Properly and completely filled-out Self Assessment Guide (link to the form provided under 'Documents to Use' section)
3. Three (3) pieces of colored and passport size picture, white background, with collar and with name printer at the back;
Proceed to the Assessment Center Cashier and pay the assessment fee. Do not forget to collect your official receipt and the Admission Slip.
Do not forget to show up on your scheduled date and assigned venue of assessment indicated in the Admission Slip. IMPORTANT BRING YOUR ADMISSION SLIP ON YOUR ASSESSMENT DATE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROCEED WITH THE ASSESSMENT WITHOUT IT.
Get the Competency Assessment Result Summary (CARS) at the Assessment Center.
If you passed the assessment you will need to apply for the issuance of COC/NC at the TESDA District/Provincial Office where the assessment center/venue is under jurisdiction.
It will take about 7 working days for your application to be processed and your National Certificate (NC)/Certificate of Competency (COC) ready for pick up. Your certificate can be released to you directly. You can also appoint someone to pick the certificate on your behalf. You just need to issue a Special Power of Attorney (SPA). Assessment Results (CARS), Official Receipt issued by Assessment Centers and valid Identification Card (ID) must also be presented upon claiming of COCs.

Note: Submitting falsified documents can result to disqualification/forfeiture of the right to participate in any assessment certification or similar program of TESDA.

A customer who still incorrectly dials the old seven-digit number will hear a special announcement saying the format has been changed to eight-digit, for a period of three months after the migration (March 18, 2019 to June 17, 2019).

EligibilityEdit

Trainee Entry Requirements:
To be able to train and obtain a NC2 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)Certificate, applicants must have:

completed training in SMAW NC I or a holder of SMAW NC I
can communicate both oral and written
physically and mentally fit
can perform basic mathematical computation

To apply for assessment and certification:

Graduates of formal, non-formal and informal including enterprise- based training programs.
Experienced workers (wage employed or self employed)

InstructionsEdit

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was created during the time of President Fidel V. Ramos through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7796 also known as the "Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994."

TESDA was established mainly to reduce overlapping in skills development activities initiated by various public and private sector agencies, and to provide national directions for the country's technical-vocational education and training (TVET) system. Before the creation of TESDA there is a National Manpower and Youth Council (NMYC) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The Bureau of Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE) of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), and The Apprenticeship Program of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) of the DOLE. Merging these offices was one of the key recommendations of the 1991 Report of the Congressional Commission on Education, which undertook a national review of the state of Philippine education and manpower development.

One of the main role of TESDA is the formulation of a comprehensive development plan for middle-level manpower based on the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan. It reformed industry-based training program that includes apprenticeship, dual training system and other similar schemes.

Mandates of TESDA:

Integrate, coordinate and monitor skills development programs;
Restructure efforts to promote and develop middle-level manpower;
Approve skills standards and tests;
Develop an accreditation system for institutions involved in middle-level manpower development;
Fund programs and projects for technical education and skills development; and
Assist trainers training programs.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II Certificate proves that a person is well trained in welding carbon steel plate and pipe components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work order, welding procedure or oral instructions using shielded metal arc welding equipment.
The qualification set by TESDA conforms with American Welding Society (AWS) D 1.1 Structural Welding Code; American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) IX Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code; American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 Code for Gas and Oil Pipeline Facilities; and International Standards Organization (ISO) 9606-1 Qualification of Welders for Steel
