Zambia - Obtain police clearance certificate
ProcedureEdit
- The applicant will submit his/her set of fingerprints on a standard fingerprint form and that will be done at any Police Station in the area of the applicants residence.
- The set of fingerprints obtained from the applicant will then be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, Zambia Police for the attention of Director C.I.D by any means possible.
NOTE: that faxed and photocopied prints are not allowed and will not be processed.
- The forwarding fingerprints should be accompanied by fees in form of International Money Order or Bank Certificate Cheque and are charged as follows:
- Cost of Police Clearance for Zambian living aboard is US $100.00
- Cost of Police Clearance for non-Zambian living aboard is US $150.00
- The International Money Order or Bank cheque should be payable to the Inspector General of Police.
- The applicant should use a courier of his/her choice to deliver fingerprints to Zambia Police Headquarters and obtain processed Police Clearance Certificate form from the Zambia Police Service for delivery to the applicant.
NOTE: that postage and courier charges will be borne by the applicants.

Required DocumentsEdit
- The applicant must provide a full set of his/her fingerprints, preferably taken at their nearest police station.
- The applicants full name, surname, date of birth, place of birth and identity number must also be recorded on the fingerprint form.
- A copy of the applicants identity document or passport must accompany the application.
- The applicant must present their identity document at the police station, as proof of identity will be required.

- two photographs
- a set of fingerprints (both hands) taken on a standard finger print form at any police station in your area of residence

- a pre-paid DHL envelope for the Police Certificate to be couriered to you.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.
Police certificate is also known as good citizen certificate, good conduct certificate, police clearance certificate, or judicial record extracts. Applicants may have to submit fingerprints and certain personal information to request a criminal record check, and the police or government agency may charge a fee. If no record found, the police certificate will indicate such.
In many immigration cases you may be requested by relevant Government to present Police Clearance Certificate from another country where you have resided for some time. If you are going through immigration process, you will definitely be asked for such a certificate.

Centralized criminal records covering Zambia are maintained at Police Headquarters, Criminal Investigation Department, P.O. Box Ridgeway l04, Lusaka, Zambia. The Zambian Police issue certificates for any resident or former resident of Zambia which states whether or not a criminal record exists. If a record exists, it will give the particulars of the offense. The Republic of Zambia Police requires a complete set of fingerprints in order to issue the clearance certificate. The applicant should be fingerprinted by the police officer in the country of residence. The fingerprint form must be signed by the police officer and must bear the stamp of the local police. The applicant or the local police should then send the fingerprints to the Criminal Investigation Department with a written request that the police certificate be issued. Payment should be a bank draft made payable to the Zambia Police, Criminal Investigation Department, P.O. Box RW 104, Lusaka, Zambia.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
A police clearance certificate is a copy of your criminal record or a declaration of the absence of any criminal record. Police clearance certificates are different in each country and territory and may be called police certificates, good conduct certificates, judicial record extracts, pcc, etc. They are issued by police authorities or government departments and used by Citizenship and Immigration to prevent individuals who possess a risk to Country's security from entering the country.

Each individual has the right to contact any police station or the judiciary for the purpose of ordering a certificate regarding his or her criminal record, which will be sent according to the law, directly to foreign missions, to missions abroad or to international adoption agencies, depending on the available data.
It is the applicants responsibility to contact the relevant authorities to obtain the necessary police certificates or clearances. Each countrys procedures are different. Applicants may have to apply to more than one level of government or more than one agency - municipal, provincial, state, federal and the police, courts or similar governmental agencies for the police certificate. If a police certificate cannot be obtained from any of the countries on the list, provide a written explanation why and an original letter from the police authority confirming that it will not issue a certificate.
In most cases, you must contact the police or government to ask for a certificate. You may have to:
- provide information or documents, such as photographs, fingerprints, or your addresses and dates that you lived in the country or territory, and
- pay a fee.
