Zambia - Obtain a Marriage Certificate

Apply In-Person:
- To apply for a marriage-certificate in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship office in your area, for the main office visit link.
- The registration process begins with the local council or church and then proceeds to the Civil Registration Authority.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the Registrar-General office.
- Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
- Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
- Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- After the completion and verification of the required documents, the certificate will be accessible.
- Collect the marriage certificate from the office or wait for the post to arrive at the provided postal address in a stipulated period of time.

EligibilityEdit
- 21 years of age for males and females.
- Exemptions: Males and females can marry at age 18 with parental consent.
- Customary law also allows for marriage once puberty is reached; males and females can marry at age 16 or younger with consent from the High Court.

- The required documents are used by the local council, the certificate of marriage from the council is used by the Civil Registrar to issue a statutory marriage certificate.

- The granted document is used in transferring or sharing land ownership between separated spouses, if any property is under both their names.
