Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a small-scale gemstone license in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the ministry of minerals and mines development office of Zambia, for the main office visit link.
  2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. The application form can be obtained from any minerals and mines development office.
  4. Fill the application form provided to you after understanding the guidelines properly.
  5. The fee has to be paid according to the authority’s request.
  6. Upon the satisfaction of the authorities, a provisional certificate will be accessible.
  7. The applicant gets the license in 30 days.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Proof of financial resources, technical competence and experience to carry on effective small-scale gemstone mining operations.
  • That the proposed programme of gemstone mining operations is adequate and makes proper provision for environmental protection.
  • Proof of consent, where consent is required for the area under any written law.
  • A description of the area of land over which the gemstone licence is sought.
  • The proposed programme of mining operations, including a forecast of investment and the estimated recovery rate of ore and gemstones.
  • A statement of the gemstone deposits in the area over which the licence is sought.
  • A tax clearance certificate.
  • Any other information as the Director may require.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant must be a Zambian citizen.



FeesEdit

  • Application Fee: ZMK 90,000.00.
  • License Fee: ZMK 360,000.00.
  • Area charges as follows:
  • Year<1: Nil.
  • Year 2 to 4: ZMK 18,000.00 per ha. per year.
  • Year 5 to 7: ZMK 27,000.00 per ha. per year.
  • Year 8 onwards ZMK: 36,000.00 per ha per year.



ValidityEdit

  • The maximum period for which a mining licence can be granted is 10 year and can be renewed.
