Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for a seed testing certificate in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Seed Control and Certification Institute (SCCI) department of Zambia, for the main office visit link.
2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant while visiting the Seed Control and Certification Institute office.
4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form, find the form on page 109 of the following pdf Link.
5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
6. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page.
7. Concerned authorities will issue a receipt of payment.
8. The seeds inspector or authorized officer will conduct the testing and will submit a report.
9. Upon successful assessment of the application by the authorities, the declaration will be assessed and given to the applicant.
10. The applicant will get the required certificate/license in a stipulated Period of time.

• The applicant should be a bonafide resident of Zambia.
• The applicant should be of legal age.

Fees(in K) for checking purity, germination, number and moisture content respectively are as follows:

• Cereals: 20.00, 22.00, 22.00, 20.00
• Pulses: 20.00, 22.00, 22.00, 20.00
• Oil Crops: 28.00, 22.00, 26.00, 18.00
• Fibre Crops: 28.00, 22.00, 26.00, 18.00
• Root Crops: 24.00, 24.00, 26.00, 18.00
• Herbage Cresses: 28.00, 28.00, 26.00, 18.00
• Herbage Legumes: 24.00, 24.00, 26.00, 18.00
• Vegetables: 28.00, 28.00, 26.00, 26.00
• Stimulant Crops: 28.00, 28.00, 26.00, 20.00
• Others: 28.00, 28.00, 26.00, 20.00

Validity

• For cereals, pulses, oil crops, fiber crops and root crops: 9 months.
• For herbage grasses and legumes, vegetables and stimulant crops: 12 months (from the date of completion of testing the seeds).

Instructions

• The applicant will have to provide reliable scales for checking the weight of a seed lot.

Required Information

• Name of applicant
• Name and address of the farm
• The seed class
• Certification number
• The species and cultivar of seed
• Inert matter
• Purity (% by weight)
• Germination capacity (% by number)
• Species and number of other crop seeds.
• Species and number of weed seeds.

Need for the Document

• The certificate verifies whether the seeds are marketable and also states the category of the seeds.
