Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a resident permit in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Immigration office of your area, for the main office visit link.
  2. Applicants will be provided with an application form to be filled in the immigration office.
  3. Please make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. Upon the submission of the form an application fee is to be paid to the concerned authorities.
  5. After the payment is successful, and the prerequisite is met, the application will be submitted to the concerned authorities.
  6. Keep in constant contact with the authorities for smooth completion of procedure and to receive the permit.



Apply Online

  1. Visit the following portal online registration portal.
  2. Login if you already have an account or register in the portal, the “Register” option is given in “my profile”.
  3. To register, provide the details asked like name, email and passport number.
  4. Choose “Type of Representative” from the drop down menu provided.
  5. Click on the “Register” button.
  6. Go to the login portal again and login with your username and password.
  7. After you have successfully logged into the system with your account credentials, click “My Profile” to access your personal profile information.
  8. Data form will display and the information will be organized in 3 tabs: Identity, Address, Contact.
  9. Fill in all the appropriate details and after you have finished click the “Save” button to save the information.
  10. Open the “Contact” tab and provide your up-to-date contact information, so that the Immigration Department could reach you for questions and notices. Otherwise, you may miss some important information. Click “Save” after you have finished.
  11. Go to “My Workplace”, you will see a link under “Available Permits” as “Find a Permit” and “Apply for a Variation”.
  12. Select “residence permit” service from the list.
  13. Click “Next” and complete the application that consists of a form for residence permit and again click “Next”.
  14. Review the application requirements, scan and upload the required documents, click “Next”.
  15. Preview the completed application form as a PDF file (you can print or save it for your records).
  16. If all information is correct, click “Confirm” and preview the system-generated Electronic Bill (you can print or save it for your records).
  17. If you accept the fees and have your credit card ready, click on the “Pay Online” button and you will be redirected to the bank site for secure payment processing.
  18. Enter your billing details, click “Next” and then click the “Pay” button.
  19. Upon completion of payment, you will be returned to the Payment Receipt page.
  20. Review your payment confirmation message, print or download Payment Receipt in PDF format, for your records.
  21. To complete the application process, click on the “Finish” button. You will see the number of the application case you have submitted.
  22. Your application can be tracked after logging in and going to the “submitted” section.
  23. Wait for approval of your application.
  24. When your application is approved, wait for the authority's action.
  25. Wait for the permit to arrive via post or collect from immigrant office.

Applicants aged between 7 – 15 years

  • Covering letter to Director General of Immigration
  • Certified copy of valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia)
  • Certified copy of birth certificate of the applicant
  • Certified copy of parents’ status
  • One recent passport size photographs
  • Adoption certificate (in case of adopted children)
  • Proof of enrolment at an educational institution (for students)
  • Alien Registration Card and
  • Prescribed fee.



Applicants above 16 years

  • Covering letter to Director General of Immigration
  • Aliens Registration Card
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate of the applicant
  • Certified copy of Marriage Certificate
  • Two testimonials from persons of good standing who have known the applicant for a minimum period of not less than three (3) years
  • Certified copy of valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia)
  • Certified copy of host’s status
  • One recent passport size photographs
  • Adoption Certificate (in case of adopted children)
  • Proof of enrolment at an educational Institution (for students) and
  • Prescribed fee

EligibilityEdit

The applicant should at meet one of the following eligibilities:

  • A foreigner who: has held an Employment Permit for a continuous period exceeding ten (10) years
  • Is a dependant (who is 21 years old or below) of someone with a valid Residence Permit or an established resident
  • Has held an Investor’s Permit for more than three (3) years
  • Has held a Spouse Permit for at least five (5) years
  • Is a person (irrespective of age) born from a citizen
  • Is a dependant of foreign origin under the care of a citizen
  • Has intention to retire in Zambia and showing proof of sufficient funds (pension, irrevocable annuity, retirement account)
  • And a holder of an Entry Permit (provided there are reasonable and justifiable grounds for the delayed change).

  • Residence Permit is Valid Forever unless revoked.

InstructionsEdit

A residence permit shall cease to be valid if the holder—

  • Fails to enter Zambia within six months of the date of issue of the permit or such later date as the Director General of Immigration may endorse on the residence permit;
  • is absent from Zambia for a period in excess of six months without notifying the Director-General of Immigration, in writing, that that person proposes to return to Zambia
  • Is absent from Zambia for any period in excess of twelve months.
