ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Rehabilitation and Habitation for Differently Abled (Disabled) in Zambia, the applicant will have to visit the agency for persons with disability at the district or provincial office, for the main office visit link.
  2. Make sure to have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the department of immigration.
  4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
  5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the respective office.
  6. Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. After the completion and verification of all the documents, the facilities will be accessible.
  8. Avail the rehabilitation and habitation facilities in a stipulated period of time.

  • Applicants should be a citizen of Zambia.
  • A person suffering from any kind of permanent physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments that alone, or in combination with social environment barriers, hinders the ability of a person to fully or effectively participate in society on an equal basis with others.

  • The document helps the holder to avail habilitation and rehabilitation facilities provided to a disabled person under Person with Disabilities Act of Zambia.

  • The six (6) types of disabilities are:
    • Physical: a permanent physical loss, impairment, or disease, which significantly limits physical ability or motor skills.
    • Developmental: a disability that is because of an intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, or autism, Any other condition that results in impairment similar to that caused by an intellectual disability and requires services similar to those required by persons with intellectual disabilities. Such a disability must be expected to continue indefinitely, and create substantial functional performance limitations.
    • Visual: Blindness and the term blindness means central vision acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the use of a correcting lens. An eye that is accompanied by a limitation in the fields of vision so that the widest diameter of the visual field subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees shall be considered as having a central vision acuity of 20/200 or less.
    • Hearing: A disability that results in complete absence of hearing, or that, even with a hearing aid, results in hearing so impaired that needs other kinds of sensory input as the principal means of receiving spoken language.
    • Mental: a significant impairment of an individual’s cognitive, affective, or relational abilities that may require intervention and may be a recognized, medically diagnosable illness or disorder.
    • Albinism results in a lack of pigmentation (melanin) in the hair, skin and eyes, causing vulnerability to the sun and bright light. As a result, almost all people with albinism are visually impaired and are prone to developing skin cancer. There is no cure for the absence of melanin.
