Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for a Driver’s license in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Road Transport and Safety Agency of your area, for the main office visit link.
2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant at the Road Transport and Safety Agency office.
4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has fill-in all the necessary information in the application form given by the road transport department
5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
6. Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
7. A driver’s examination will be conducted to check the driving skills of the applicant.
8. Upon clearing the theory & practical test the license can be obtained.
9. After the verification of all the documents, the license will be accessible.
10. Once the test and all the verification process is done, the applicant gets the license in a stipulated period of time.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be enrolled in a licensed driving school.
• They must show proof of enrollment and must demonstrate a minimum of 7 days’ theory driving lessons.
• Minimum age requirements:
• Motorcycle Provisional Driving License: 16 years of age
• Motor Vehicle Driver's License: 18 years of age
• Provisional Driver's License PSV (Passenger Service Vehicle)
• Applicants must be 25 years old.
• Applicants must have experience driving with a valid driver's license for the past years before the application.
• The applicant must be enrolled at a driving school for the first PSV application, and be in possession of a valid PSV driver’s license for candidates seeking renewal.

Fees

• Application Fee: K 105.

Validity

• This licence will be valid for five years.

Driver’s Examination:
This examination is conducted on applicants wishing to drive motor vehicles on a public road. The examination is conducted in two fold, namely theory and practical.

• Theory Driver test is conducted to ascertain an applicants’ driving knowledge.
• Practical Driving Test is conducted to ascertain applicants driving skill and competences. The applicants are subjected to docking or barrel and country drive tests.
