Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for a Certificate of Citizenship by Registrationin Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Department of national registration passport and citizenship office, please tap on the following link to view contact details: link.
2. Make sure to have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the Department of national registration passport and citizenship office.
4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill in all the necessary information in the application form.
5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
6. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page.
7. After the completion and verification of all the required documents, the document will be accessible.
8. Collect the certificate from the office in 21 days.

• Duly completed application form.
• Copies of marriage certificate for married applicant.
• Copy of the birth certificate.
• Copies of details from the previous passport.
• Copy of the adoption certificate(if applicable)
• Renunciation certificate of the adoptee form from the country of origin.
• Photocopies of passports of parents or guardians.

Eligibility

• A person who has been married to a citizen of Zambia for a period of at least five years may apply, in the prescribed manner, to be registered as a citizen if—
  • The marriage was solemnised under a system of law recognised in Zambia, whether solemnised in Zambia or outside Zambia.
  • The applicant has not been declared a prohibited immigrant under the Immigration and Deportation Act, 2010, or any other written law.
  • The applicant has not been convicted of an offence and sentenced to imprisonment; and Citizenship of Zambia.
  • The marriage was not entered into for the purpose of acquiring a status or privilege in relation to immigration or citizenship.
    

• A child who is not a citizen, but is adopted by a citizen, is entitled, on application in the prescribed manner by the adoptive parent or legal guardian, to be registered as a citizen upon-
  • The production of proof of the Zambian citizenship of the adoptive parent.
  • The production of a valid adoption certificate issued in a reciprocating State or other jurisdiction whose orders and decrees are recognised in Zambia.
  • Proof of lawful residence of the child in Zambia.
    

Fees

Application Fee: Pay as per the authority’s request.

Validity

The document is valid forever unless revoked.
