Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a student loan in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Bursaries Committee in Zambia, for the main office visit link.
  2. Applications are usually invited to contest for these student loans by way of adverts in the Print Media (Daily Mail and Times of Zambia) around February / March and September each year.
  3. Now you have to send a handwritten letter of application to the Bursaries Committee responding to the advert in the media, stating the loan category and why you should be considered for this Loan. Clearly state the field of study desired, age, day, time, telephone number, fax and e-mail address for easy communication.
  4. Attach the necessary documents on the application form, certified Photocopies of Education Certificates, Transcripts and Curriculum Vitae.
  5. All Loan applicants are expected to possess valid Social Security Numbers.
  6. Applicants should get the complete details of all the requirements from the Loan Application guidelines.
  7. Also attach a brief study plan of details outlining a preferred course and how the intended course of study will enhance one's contributions to Zambia's development (200 and 400 words for Undergraduates and Postgraduates, respectively).
  8. Submit your Application form together with other requirements as stipulated in the Student Loan Guidelines, the Bursary Committee will allocate a student loan identification number to each approved applicant.
  9. The Bursaries committee will shortlist the applications and determine the best applicants for approval, a list of the approved students will be posted in the print Media and letters of acceptance sent to various Universities and colleges across Zambia.
  10. Then the Bursaries Committee will disburse to the bank account of higher institutions in Zambia on behalf of selected candidates.
  11. Part of the loan due to the student is paid to the beneficiary through a commercial bank as funds become available.
  12. Candidates awarded a Student Loan are expected to meet any shortfall not covered by the loan.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicants should be a bona fide national of the country.
  • School leaver up to 3 years prior to commencement of the programme
  • Admitted into a degree programme at one of the local public universities.



FeesEdit

  • Pay as instructed by the committee.



ValidityEdit

  • The loan is only valid for one academic year/semester but may be renewed on application and production of satisfactory academic results.

  • Please note that only vulnerable Zambians need apply for 100% loan and are expected to attach all necessary documents in support of their vulnerability. The actual funding levels are determined by the Government through the Bursaries Committee in consultation with the universities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • The loan is determined by the Bursaries Committee and is not negotiable by the students’ union.
