ProcedureEdit

Learner StageEdit

In the Learner stage you require 50 hours of driving experience. The requirements for 10 hours of night driving and 10 hours of winter driving have been removed from the Learner stage. However, it is strongly suggested that you include this type of experience for your own benefit.

You are allowed to carry immediate family members as passengers. Immediate family members are defined as parent, grandparent, brother, sister or child of the holder of the Class 7, Learner, Car/Truck licence. So you can have one non-family member in the vehicle in addition to the co-driver and the rest must be your family members. Everyone must have an operable seat belt and the total number in the vehicle must not exceed 7 people.

Novice StageEdit

In the Novice stage you can carry as many passengers in the vehicle as there are operable seat belts up to a maximum of 9 people, including the driver.

You can apply for an exemption to your driving permit to allow you to drive to and from work between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m. This exemption is for work purposes only. You must drive to and from work using only the most direct route and you are not permitted to carry any passengers.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Graduated driver licensing systems (GDLS) are designed to provide new drivers of motor vehicles with driving experience and skills gradually over time in low-risk environments. They begin by acquiring a learners permit, progress to a restricted, provisional or probationary license, followed by receipt of a full driver's license.

Graduated drivers' licensing generally restricts nighttime, expressway, and unsupervised driving during initial stages, but lifts these restrictions with time and further testing of the individual, eventually concluding with the individual attaining a full driver's license.
