Apply In-Person:
The applicant will have to take the written test

  1. Visit the nearest Motor Vehicles office to take your test.
  2. Here is the link to find the nearest office
  3. The applicant will have to pay a fee of $20.
  4. Bring all relevant valid identification and proof you're a Yukon resident.
  5. If the applicant is under 18 they need to bring a parent or legal guardian. They'll also have to show proof of identity.
  6. Take the vision test.
  7. Get your learner's licence
  8. You'll get a learner’s licence and package once you have passed the written and vision tests. Study the Tuning Up for Drivers Handbook to prepare for your road test.
  9. Follow the learner stage restrictions.


After getting 50 hours of driving experience, the applicant can move on to the Novice stage.

  1. The applicant will have to contact your nearest Motor Vehicles office to book a road test appointment.
  2. A road test costs $20.
  3. The applicant must provide a safe vehicle with valid insurance and registration.
  4. Once you pass the road test, you'll be issued a novice licence.
  5. Follow the novice stage restrictions and conditions
  6. In the novice stage, there are restrictions you must follow:
  7. You'll need to be in the novice stage for at least 18 months before you're able to apply for a full class licence.

Visit the nearest motor vehicle office to apply for a full class license.
