Procedure

Apply by Mail:

1. To Apply for Amateur Radio License, the applicant has to approach the Federal Communications Commission link
2. Once the applicant is ready to take the exam, the applicant will need to find an exam session in the area.
3. Exam sessions are typically held by local Amateur Radio clubs, and the applicant can find a list of upcoming exam sessions on the website of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).
4. On the day of the exam, the applicant will need to bring a valid photo ID and payment for the exam fee. The exam will consist of multiple-choice questions, and you will need to pass with a score of at least 74%.
5. After passing the exam, the applicant will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE).
6. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
8. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
9. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
10. Submit the completed form and the necessary documents to the office mail address.
11. The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
12. Once the verification process is done by the authority, the applicant receives a notification through mail.
13. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee of $35.
14. Upon completing all the details, the applicant will get the license from the office.
15. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
