Step – 1 Course

  1. Before applying for an Occupational Therapy Licence, Graduates must have a degree from an accredited occupational therapy program. The program must be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

  3. Also, the applicant needs to get an experience in the field.
  4. Occupational therapy programs typically include supervised fieldwork or clinical rotations.
  5. Completion of the required fieldwork hours is essential for eligibility to apply for a license.
  6. Complete the required number of supervised hours. Most states require several thousand hours of supervised experience under the guidance of a licensed.



Step – 2 Examination

  1. Graduates must pass the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam.
  2. This exam assesses the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level occupational therapy practice.



Step – 3 Licensure Examination

  1. The examination evaluates your clinical skills and ability to perform occupation therapy procedures.
  2. To apply for the American Occupational Therapy Association examination, the applicant has to use the following link link
  3. If the applicant is a new user, the applicant has to click the “Create Account” button.
  4. Enter all the details with the captcha code and click the “Create Account” button.
  5. Now the applicant has to log in with the User name and password and click the “Login” button.
  6. Enter all the details in the application form.
  7. Also, check the date and time for the exam and click the “Submit” button.



Step - 4

  1. After completing the exam successfully, the applicant has to get a license from the respective college.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned branch officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  10. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  11. The applicant will get the dental license through the mail.
  12. This entire process can be completed within 30 - 40 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
