You are a West Virginia resident, are 18 years old or older, holding an out-of-state driver’s license or not, you can obtain a West Virginia driver’s license by following:
- You are New to West Virginia
- If you are out-of-state, license is not suspended or revoked, you can transfer your out-of-state license within 30 days of moving to West Virginia. Please follow below steps to do this:
- Prepare the required documents:
- Your surrendered out-of-state license
- One proof of Social Security number document as Social security card, an original Wage and Tax Statement (W-2) or payroll stub with your employer name and employer ID number, etc.
- One proof of identity document as original or certified copy of an U.S.-issued birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport, etc.
- Two proofs of West Virginia residency documents as West Virginia utility bills (not more than 60 days old), tax records with street address, weapons permit, etc.
- Proof of legal name change documents (if applicable) as certified marriage certificate, birth certificate with amended legal name, court Order, etc.
- Proof of changes to birth date, SSN (if applicable)
- Visit a suitable West Virginia DMV office :
- Office Locations Present the required documents, follow all of officer’s guiding to take and pass the vision exam, complete a brief alcohol awareness course, the written and road skills tests will be required if the out-of-state is expired.
