- To renew your vehicle registration certificate in West Bengal the applicant has to approach the RTO office of his area. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office : Contact Link

- Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application.
- The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for this procedure.
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices
- Submit the form with all the documents to the counter. The person will verify the form and mark the fees to be paid.
- Pay the fees at the cash counter.
- Produce the vehicle for inspection.
- Once the inspection is through, the inspector will verify the engine and chassis numbers.
- You will get an acknowledgement slip with which you can collect the updated documents next day or the day mentioned in the slip

Note: There are 18 motor vehicle offices that can be found within the premises of the respective offices of the District Magistrates. There are also 7 sub-divisional motor vehicle offices located in the premises of the offices of the concerned Sub Divisional Officers.
EligibilityEdit
- Owner of the vehicle can apply for renewal of RC.
- The owner of the Non transport vehicle should apply for renewal of Registration Certificate after Completion of 15 years from the date of original registration. The registration should be renewed prior to 60 days of the expiry of the registration.

- The Non-Transport Category vehicle is renewed for 5 years.
- The Transport Category Vehicle is renewed for 1 year.
- Renewal should be made not more than 60 days before the date of its expiry

InstructionsEdit
- Is your vehicle completing its 15 years of registered life, then you need to renew vehicle registration certificate before it expires.
- You need to take your vehicle to the RTO office where the registration was done earlier.
- If your vehicle is road-worthy then your vehicle registration will be renewed for another 5 years.
- To renew your vehicle, an application for the Certificate of Registration shall be made in Form 25, not more than 60 days before the date of its expiry, by paying the appropriate fee as specified in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to the Registering Authority in whose Jurisdiction the vehicle is.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
- As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, all vehicles either transport or non-transport should renew their registration of vehicle after a period of time as allowed.
- For Non transport type vehicle like car, bike etc. need to be renewed after 15 years and 5 years afterwards.
- For transport type vehicles like bus the renewal is required for every year.
- For as long as it is considered road worthy by the department.

- While applying - Documents can be made in duplicate if the vehicle is held under an agreement of Hire-purchase / Lease / Hypothecation and Duplicate copy with the endorsement of the Registering Authority to be returned to the Financier simultaneously on Registration of motor vehicle.
- Make sure all lights and horn are in good condition. Also, the vehicle should look neat and clean.

All letters of the Registration mark/ Number shall be in English and the figures shall be in Arabic numerals and the letters & figures shall be painted in reflecting colours and be shown :
- In case of transport vehicles other than those under the rent a cab scheme 1989 in black on white ground.
- In the case of motor vehicles temporarily registered in red on yellow ground.
- In the case of motor vehicles in the possession of dealer in white on a red ground.
- In other cases, in white on a black ground.
- In the case of transport vehicle under rent a cab scheme,1989, in yellow on a black ground.
The size of registration mark should not be less than :
- For Motor Cycle or Scooters:
- Height - 35
- Thickness - 7
- Space In MM - 5
- For All Motor Vehicles:
- Height - 65
- Thickness - 10
- Space In MM - 10
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
The registration certificate is used as a proof for the ownership of a vehicle. It can also be used for the transaction,renewal,re-registration of a particular vehicle.
