  1. If you are eligible to apply for a continuing teacher certificate you will need to get in touch with the Professional Certification Office (contact information is provided below).
  2. Call the office and ask for a paper application.
  3. Details about the documents needed and process to obtain the certificate will be on the form.

EligibilityEdit

Teachers must hold a valid initial teaching certificate to apply for the continuing certificate.

For holders of expired initial certificate (but you met requirements for the Continuing before expiration) you can still apply but you will have to pay a late fee ($100 late). If you did not meet requirements before expiration, you will need to follow procedure on Conversion to Residency Certificate.

Applicants must:

  • Have a master's degree from an accredited college/university OR 45 quarter hours (30 semester hours) of upper division or graduate-level post baccalaureate study (coursework at the 100 level is allowed when used to obtain an endorsement).
  • Have 180 days of teaching experience, 30 days of which must be in one school district. Substitute teaching, out-of-state teaching, and teaching in more than one district is acceptable.
  • Have taken coursework in issues of abuse, which must include information related to identification of physical, emotional, sexual, and substance abuse; the impact on learning and behavior; the responsibilities of a teacher to report abuse or to provide assistance to victimized children; and methods of teaching about abuse and its prevention.
