Procedure

1. To apply for a building permit the applicant has to contact the Public Works Department.
2. The applicant has to submit the drawings to be reviewed and assessed.
3. If the permit is approved the customer is issued with the permit and an approval letter.
   
   

Other points:

• If application is denied (does not meet the requirements), a formal letter will be sent stating the specific instructions on the steps needed to reach set requirements for approval.
• Inspections are carried on based on request by contractor, agent or property owner. A 24 hours notice is required for all inspections on Tortola and 48 hours for Sister Islands.
• Any changes to approved drawings must be approved by the Building Inspection Unit, PWD and the Town and Country Planning Department.
• A stamped copy of all drawings must be on-site throughout construction and at time of inspections.
