Procedure

1. To convert or exchange your foreign driver's license, go to your local transport department.
2. Submit a complete application, a copy of your driving license, a copy of your passport, authorized translation of the foreign license and three passport photos.
3. Complete and pass any required test.
4. Pay the application fee.

Required Documents

• A completed application to convert a foreign driver's license confirmed by the organization/agency the applicant is working for or the local authority where he/she is living;
• A copy of driving license (present the original one for verification);
• A copy of passport (number, validity, name, photo and visa page for their entry into Vi?t Nam, you will also need to present the original passport for verification)
• An authorized translation of the foreign-granted driving license into Vietnamese;
• Three color passport photos (3x4)

Eligibility

• A Vietnamese citizen can convert his/her driving license at the Vietnam Road Department or Transport Departments at his/her temporary residence.
• Non-Vietnamese citizen residing over three months in Vietnam would be allowed to convert their driving license.

Need for the Document

Non-Vietnamese citizens are only allowed to drive in the Vietnam if they hold temporary Vietnamese driver's license.

Foreigners or overseas Vietnamese will have to convert their foreign driving licenses or international driving permits into Vietnamese driving licenses if they are planning to drive in the country for a longer period.
