ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to apply for a bus and truck driver license.
  2. Produce your driver license as evidence of identity and a secondary evidence document (e.g. a current Medicare Card, credit or account card issued by a bank, building society or credit union).
  3. Pass a driving test in a vehicle of the category of license you require and an off-road skills test.
  4. If you are getting a bus and truck license for the first time, you must also pass a written knowledge test based on information in The Victorian Bus and Truck Drivers Handbook. If you already hold a bus or truck license, a knowledge test is not necessary.
  5. To get a Multi Combination (MC) license, you must pass an approved training course.

EligibilityEdit

You must have a current Australian car driver license and meet the graduation criteria.

  • For Light and Medium Rigid Vehicle, you must have held an Australian car driver license for at least 12 months.
  • For Heavy Rigid Vehicle, you must have held an Australian car driver license for at least 24 months.
  • For Heavy Combination Vehicle, you must have held an Australian car driver license for at least 24 months, including Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid license for at least 12 months.
  • For Multi Combination Vehicle, you must have held a Heavy Combination, Heavy Rigid or a combination of Heavy Rigid and a Heavy Combination vehicle license for at least 12 months, plus the completion of an approved course.

InstructionsEdit

  • The Graduated Licensing Scheme requires you to gain experience driving smaller vehicles before you move on to driving larger, more complex vehicles.
  • You can apply for a Light Rigid (LR) or Medium Rigid (MR) license when you have held a car driver license for 12 months. However, you can start training for your LR or MR license any time after getting your car license.
