Procedure

You are a Venezuela citizen. You are in legal age of eighteen years old and up. You are in single marital status. You are in Venezuela or not. You can apply for your single status certificate/ evidence of singleness (Justificativos de Solter’a). This is proof of singleness, and equivalent to an affidavit of not having an impediment to marry. Its main purpose is usually to formalize the marriage, but lately they are usually also requested by Venezuelans who have emigrated, to carry out different legal procedures. Please follow the below guiding to apply for it:

1. Prepare requirements:
In case of you are in Venezuela:
• Your copy of the identity card
• Your copy of the birth certificate
• Copies of parents’ identity cards (if necessary)
In case of you are not in Venezuela and you must perform the procedure through a power of attorney.You can ask a lawyer to write you such a request. Two Venezuelan witnesses of legal age (they can be your family members) will be needed, with their respective identification cards in force. It is also recommended to write down the telephone number of each witness. They should only sign the application. This case, you must prepare the additional requirements:
• Your completed power of attorney for your representative
• The lawyer impreabogado number
• Your original and copy the notarised letter of residence
• Your original identity card
2. Visit a suitable Civil Registry
If you are in Venezuela and just need the single status certificate to formalize the marriage, you should present the required documents at the Civil Registry. Follow all of officer’s guiding to apply and receive the single status certificate. It is free but maybe depend on each Civil Registry Office. It is also not necessary to go to the Main Registry to validate the signatures. However, if you need the certificate to carry out different legal procedure, it may require validating the signatures. If you are abroad and need the single status certificate to use in the emigration, you should apply through a lawyer by a power of attorney. The lawyer must present the required documents at the Civil Registry to apply for your single status certificate.After that, the certificate must be legalized/apostilled to be possible use in a foreign country. The apostille is nothing else than a stamp, authenticated, that proves the authenticity of the document. To do it, please follow the below steps:
3. Visit a suitable Main registry
Present the single status certificate and the additional required documents, if applying by a lawyer through the power of attorney. Follow all of officer’s guiding to validate the signatures. Pay the applicable fee as 2.5 UT (Tax Unites).
4. Visit the Ministry of popular power for interior, justice and peace
This is where the apostille and legalization of the single status certificate will be made. Unfortunately, it is not possible to carry out this procedure electronically, so the authorized person must travel to Caracas to do it. It usually charges a small fee.
