Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for temporary vehicle registration in Uttarakhand, the applicant has to approach the RTO office of the area.
  2. Information related to the RTO offices and registering authority can be obtained from the “Office and Location” Section of this page.
  3. You will have to submit Application in front of registering authority within seven days of purchase of vehicle along with the documents.
  4. The application shall be made in application Form no 29, to the RTO
  5. The application form no 29 can be downloaded through following link:Form 29
  6. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  7. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  8. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application for transfer of other state vehicle.

Apply Online via National Portal: - Uttarakhand Transfer Vehicle Ownership Online with Images

  1. To transfer vehicle ownership, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
  2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
  3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
  4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
  5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
  6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

InstructionsEdit

  • Transfer of ownership in case of normal sale
  1. Where the ownership of a motor vehicle is transferred, the transferor shall report the fact of transfer in Form 29 to the registering authorities concerned in whose jurisdiction the transferor and the transferee reside or have their places of business.
  2. in the case of a vehicle registered within the same State, within fourteen days of the transfer, application for the transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle shall be made by the transferee in Form 30 to the registering authorities, and shall be accompanied by set of forms given below under Form I
  3. in the case of a vehicle registered outside the State, within forty-five days of the transfer, application for the transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle shall be made by the transferee in Form 30 to the registering authorities, and shall be accompanied by set of forms given below under Form I and Form II
  4. Pay appropriate fee and tax as specified in rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989
  • Transfer of ownership on death of owner of the vehicle
  1. Apply in Form 31 within the period of three months to the registering authority for the transfer of ownership of the vehicle in your name
  2. Pay appropriate fee and tax as specified in rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989

  • Transfer of ownership of vehicle purchased in public auction
  1. The person who has acquired or purchased a motor vehicle at a public auction conducted by or on behalf of the Central Government or a State Government shall apply in Form 32 within thirty days of taking possession of the vehicle to the registering authority
  2. Pay appropriate fee and tax as specified in rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989

  • Transfer of ownership in case of normal sale
when a vehicle is sold, the name of the purchaser is noted as the registered owner in place of the previous registered owner and the process is known as transfer of ownership.
  • Transfer of ownership on death of owner of the vehicle
When the registered owner of a vehicle dies, transfer of ownership is affected in favour of the legal heirs of the deceased registered owner. Where the owner of a motor vehicle dies, the person succeeding to the possession of the vehicle may for a period of three months, use the vehicle as if it has been transferred to him where such person has, within thirty days of the death of the owner informs the registering authority of the occurrence of the death of the owner and of his own intention to vehicle
  • Transfer of ownership of vehicle purchased in public auction
When a vehicle is sold in public auction, the name of the purchaser is noted as the registered owner in place of the previous registered owner and the process is known as transfer of ownership on auction.
