Uttar Pradesh - Renew Driver License Obtained from Another State

Renewal of driving license for the one obtained from another state can be processed with the NOC obtained from home state RTO. For regular renewal you don’t require NOC. - (Please check with local RTO whether NOC is required before processing)
- As a first step, get a NOC (No Objection Letter) from the RTO that issued the license initially (For other state)
- One can get the NOC directly applying in his home town RTO
- If it is not possible to go to the issuing RTO physically, send a letter requesting for NOC. Please send it using either India Post's Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due or through Speed Post with Acknowledgement Due. You will receive the acknowledgement confirming that the letter has been received by the RTO (that issued the license).
- Retain the following -
- Copy of the NOC request letter
- The acknowledgement slip/card that you received via regular post/mail
Apply In-Person
- Applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices. Link for RTO contacts: Contact Link

- Completed application in Form 9: Form 9 link
- Please make sure you have all the required documents to process the application. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying.
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
- Present the completed application forms along with required documents in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
- If the driver license renewal authority is satisfied with the application and the documents submitted, the driver license will be renewed.
- Note : For renewal of home state license, you don’t require the NOC.
Apply Online -- Online Renew Driver License from Another State
- First one has to make sure that all the required documents are in hand to apply online.
- In order to apply for online, please follow the link : online portal
- Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
- You will be taken to a new screen where you have to select “Uttar Pradesh” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”.
- In the next window, please click “Apply Online” to select “Service on Driving License” option. In the following screen please hit “Continue” to get the next screen.
- Please select and enter appropriate option prompted for and click “proceed” to get the new page. This new page will prompt to enter details and also need to upload the required documents. Once completed, click “submit” at the bottom of the form to process the application.
- Please take printout of Acknowledgement.
- Take printout of the application form including Acknowledgement and go to nearest RTO office before 11:30 a.m. and submit the application to the RTO official. Authorities will advice the fee amount to be paid. On the appropriate counter pay the fees and submit the application and documents to process the application as per how the apply in person will be processed.

- You can take printout of online application form with the help of the following Online link
- Select “Uttar Pradesh” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”.
- In the next window, please click “Download Forms” to select “Print application form” option.
- Please enter your application number and other detail in the next window and hit ”Submit” to follow the next window to get the printout.

EligibilityEdit
- An application for renewal shall be made not more than one month before the date of expiry of the license.
- If the application is late for more than five years after the date of expiry of the license, the applicant should undergo all the formalities to obtain a fresh license.

ValidityEdit
- License to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the License is renewed every 5 years.
- Transport Vehicle License is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

InstructionsEdit
The application for the renewal of a license is made more than 30 days after the date of its expiry, the driving license shall be renewed with effect from the date of its renewal.

- As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads
- In case of a person shifting / settling from one state to another should and must apply for renewing his license in the present state
- This renewed driving license will be considered as a proof of residence in the new state
