ProcedureEdit

  1. To apply for a DPC, visit a driver license office.
  2. Complete a drivers license application, to save you some time you can:
    1. Fill out and print the application ahead of time online and bring it with you when you go to the office, or
    2. You can schedule an appointment prior to your visit to avoid waiting in line.
  3. Have your photo taken.
  4. Provide evidence of a driving privilege issued in another state or country, or evidence of completion of a course in driver education to avoid having to carry a learner permit for 90 days if age 19 and older;
  5. Provide proof of birth, full social security number or individual tax identification number (ITIN) and residence.
  6. Completed fingerprint card and photograph from local agency.
  7. Completion of required written test and driving tests.
  8. Pass the eye test.
  9. Complete the medical questionnaire.
  10. Pay the nonrefundable fee of $25.00 for fingerprint process and $25.00 licensing fee
  11. You will be issued a receipt that will serve as your temporary document. Expect to receive your completed Driving Privilege Card (DPC) by post in approximately three weeks.

EligibilityEdit

  • Residents of Utah; and
  • You are required to obtain a Utah learner permit or DPC in order to legally drive while here in Utah. The valid DPC allows the holder to operate a motor vehicle in Utah, but may not be used as a means of Identification by any Utah government entities

InstructionsEdit

A Utah Driving Privilege Card (DPC) may be issued to:

  • Individuals who are unable to establish legal/lawful presence;
  • Individuals who are ineligible for a U.S. Social Security Number and must obtain an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) from the Internal Revenue Service:
    • DPC would expire on their birth date in the first year from the date the card was issued or renewed; and
    • Individuals meeting these requirements would not be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver License or Identification Card
