Need for the DocumentEdit

Information which might helpEdit

  • The Default Costs Certificate sets out the amount of costs that the losing party owes and confirms that the winning party is entitled to enforce payment of those costs.
  • Once the certificate has been issued, the winning party can take further action to enforce payment, such as instructing a bailiff to seize assets or obtaining a charging order over property owned by the losing party.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate.
e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.

OthersEdit

When a court awards costs to a party, it is a legal requirement for the losing party to pay those costs to the winning party. However, if the losing party fails to make the payment, the winning party can apply for a Default Costs Certificate.
